First step..as a community we should stop using plastic products..then should stop using all petroleum products..then start growing more plants..internationally first must stop drilling the earth for oil..then must save all existing forest..these actions sure can reduce the pollution significantly..

all of the yucky greenhouse gases are going into the air and killing our ozone layer which is like the earth’s sun tan lotion. therefore causing the glaciers to melt and the polar bears to die. recycling helps.

We don’t even know all the possible effects yet.
Small particles and radiation in inner room (not only outside: cars, factories…) air are dangerous causing specially cancers (smoking, radon, dust, ink, chemicals…)

OK I have to admit that it’s not original. It’s taken from a novel by the Irish novelist Flann O’Brien. (Think it’s called *The Dalkey Archive*.) He has this character called de Selby who is a kind of mad scientist. One of his theories is that night is caused by black air from factories. Another theory in Flann O’Brien’s book *The Third Policeman* is that if you ride your bicycle long enough your molecules will become mixed with the bicycle’s molecules and you will become part bicycle and the bicycle will become part human. No, night is not caused by air pollution. Night is caused when the earth is not facing the sun. One part of the world of the world will be dark and the other will be light.

Interest in air quality has been documented back to the 16th century – with coal burning as a source of heat in urban environments.

Air pollution, particularly in cities, is certainly not a new problem. Back in the Middle Ages the use of coal in cities such as London was beginning to escalate. The problems of poor urban air quality even as early as the end of the 16th century are well documented.

In the UK the Industrial Revolution during the 18th and 19th centuries was based on the use of coal. Industries were often located in towns and cities, and together with the burning of coal in homes for domestic heat, urban air pollution levels often reached very high levels. During foggy conditions, pollution levels escalated and urban smogs (smoke and fog) were formed. These often brought cities to a halt, disrupting traffic but more dangerously causing death rates to dramatically rise. The effects of this pollution on buildings and vegetation also became obvious. The 1875 Public Health Act contained a smoke abatement section to try and reduce smoke pollution in urban areas.
