Conservatives, do you realize that are other reasons to cut pollution besides Global Warming?

Fine. Go ahead and don’t believe in Global Warming, archeology, or biology. But there are other more immediate reasons to cut pollution: holes in the ozone causing cancer, smog conditions leading to increased rates of asthma and allergies, rivers with inedible fish, and the destruction of the habitats of animals that YOU enjoy hunting.

Heck, you could even be against pollution for efficiency reasons. Anytime a company dumps something in the trash or pumps it into our atmosphere it is wasted energy, just like radiant heat or vibration is wasted energy.

The conservative mentality is about believing in an inflated sense of entitlement. They will never beleive they need to conserve, at least not for the sake of eco-systems, other species, or other people.

i do wish you wouldn’t marginalize people- not just you, but lots of people seem to have stupid remarks for "all liberals" or "all conservatives".

i am not a liberal, but i am not a conservative… and i TOTALLY agree with you that, even if global warming isn’t compelling enough, we should at least understand that we are responsible for taking care of our environment because it’s the right thing to do, no matter WHAT your political beliefs are.

    *shrug*
I don’t think anyone out there, conservative or liberal, is saying that we shouldn’t cut pollution. It’s responsible for most cases of allergies and asthma, and a lot of nastier stuff, in the world today. I, for one, am all for lowering pollution and changing the environment for the better. I personally decry the current furor over global warming, not because I don’t believe it exists (I do think the research is faulty and incomplete, but not completely without merit) but because so much of it is the result of overdramatization on the part of a few individuals.

My gosh what are you talking about, have you ever of heard of the EPA? In my lifetime I have seen American industry implement catalytic converters, the ban of freon and other chlorofluorocarbons, ban of chlordane, the ban of leaded gasoline, the ban of dioxin, the ban of various substances in landfills and host of other changes way to voluminous to list here.

Environmentalists should be screaming bloody murder right now about ethanol production, it is the most ecologically unsound attempt at fixing things that I have ever heard of.

Since it is apparently ok to lump everyone into one group, such as "conservatives", then why don’t liberals realize that it’s not the fact that people don’t believe in global warming. it’s the fact that it’s not the whole fault of man, as Al Gore would imply. And to say conservates are not against pollution is ridiculous. I ask you to go up to any person, anyone, and ask them if they believe it is ok to pollute.

Then why waist so much money perpetrating the Lie of manmade global warming/cooling/climate change?

I doubt there are hardly any Americans that don’t believe in cleaning up and preventing pollution. But with so much money being put forward to convince people of something that doesn’t exist, people get frustrated.

The USA is the cleanest country in the world for as much industry that we have compared to all. Yet the proponents of global warming demonize the US at every opportunity.

Our wildlife populations and habitats are managed far better than any other country on this earth, and our endangered and protected animals have done nothing but increased in population. When you people come along and say the Polar Bear population is dwindling when there bare 10 times as many today then there were in the 1970s, it makes you look ignorant. And if you really believe that, maybe you should do a little research other than algores movie. Try getting information from places that don’t start there explanation by saying how mankind is destroying our planet and that the USA is the worst polluter.

How sad that you just ‘throw’ all Conservatives into the same pot! Would you like to be thrown into a ‘dump’ that you totally disagree with? Are you for killing babies? Do you for euthanizing the elderly because they cost the government too much to keep alive? Are you ‘that’ Democrat? I suggest that you change your approach for getting people to see ‘your’ side of a situation. Republicans no more want to waste energy or destroy habitats than Democrates. And we sure don’t want to kill the helpless!

U R right my friend. There are umpteen number of reasons for GW. But try to realise that just because u r alive and healthy today, it does not mean that your grand children will also be as alive and healthy as u r today. All of us r equally responsible for this state of affairs in our little delicate world. But we take things for granted and that GW is a figment of imagination of a few. Then my question to u is – Why are the glaciers melting so fast?, Why are the levels of oceans rising?, Why are the hurricanes gaining more height and gobbling up the earth on the coasts?, why are the seaons erratic?
Have a look at the following and be the change u want to see.
U-SEE – We must save the world from over-exploitation of natural resources
Knowingly or unknowingly we are all partners in misusing of costly electricity for our lighting purpose during day time when the solar light is available just outside our windows. Why can’t bring home the sunshine?
Yes. This has been successfully adopted by a number of people in Bangalore, India. This innovative but simple method of bringing home the sunshine was suggested to the World Bank as a Grassroots Initiative for Preservation of Natural Resourcs during IDM-2007 competition – Project U-SEE (Unlimited Savings of Electrical Energy). U-SEE does not involve any nano technology nor does it requires billions of dollars for implementation. Moreover, U-SEE you get free lighting for life. No charges.
The World Bank honored this initiative and has created a permanent blog on the World Bank URL at http://dmblog.worldbank.org/mirrors-can-bring-light-rural-homes.
How is it implemented? U need a house hold mirror of 12"X18" and a pillow. Identify where u can get maximum sunshine just outside the windows with clear glass or on the balcony, keep the pillow on a stool or chair and place the mirror on the pillow, go on nudging the mirror till the solar light is deflected from the mirror, through the window and on to the white ceiling inside your home. U will be surprised to find the light spreading from the ceiling – it can be 40 to 60 watts (see the picture above – notice tube light and table lamp in the corner are not burning but there is enough light). If u can keep a bigger mirror, u will get more bright light. U can control the light just by covering a portion of the mirror.
Earth moves on its latitude. When u find that the deflected solar light is moving elsewhere, just go to the mirror, nudge a little and u can get back your light as before. THIS IS THE BASIC IDEA and once u have done it, u be the Innovator of your light requirements for your home and U-SEE PROVIDES YOU FREE LIGHTING FOR LIFE. Many homes/huts in rural areas in developing countries do not have proper lighting and people are living in dark, damp and dingy environs but urbanites living in concrete jungles in cities with tinted glasses are misusing electricity for their lighting purpose even during day time.
U-SEE the Benefits: ONE incandescent bulb/tubelight burning for 6 hours during day time consumes 7 units of electricity in a month. If half the world can adopt U-SEE and switch off one bulb for 6 hours during day time, how much of electricity can be saved? Your guess is as good as mine + saves cost of fossil fuels, coal, water+saves cost incurred for machineries and equipments+saves overhead charges+saves transmission loss charges+saves the world from global warming (burning bulbs/CO2 etc) with n’th value+ U GET FREE LIGHTING FOR LIFE with n’th value. The savings that accrue can off set the load on our productive requirements like A/c, refrigerators, mixies, fans etc.
Solar light will be available at least for about 200 days in a year and it is infinite and why should we let it go waste? We are not harnessing this infinite energy. U-SEE is ssoo simple.
First adopt this method, innovate solutions if u face small problems. U be the winner. U-SEE It is a win win situation for all of us. Need clarifications, mail: vkumar_m@yahoo.com U-SEE – The author’s ambition is to spread this friendly initiative to one and all. No charges!!

    BS!

The real environmental issues are the second saddest victims of the Global Warming Scam, as well as the other scams you guys run. The only victims that need more immediate attention are the 3rd world poor who are being slaughtered by you Environmentalists at a pace that makes the Bush War Mongers and their Capitalist Pig friends look like amateurs.

By the way, there are almost no more real conservatives left in America. There are only Social Liberals and Religious Liberals, many of whom claim to be conservative, but are much more like Social Liberals, just with a different, but just as dangerous, religious agenda.

Just claiming to be conservative doesn’t make them so.

  • JL:

I agree that "conservative environmentalist" may come off as an oxymoron but I assure you, we do exist.

I vote conservative on nearly every issue, except for those surrounding environmentalism.

Green conservatives have advocates in power as well… Look at the Govenator Arnold in California, and Rosco Bartlet (R-MA).

More and more environmentalism is becoming a mainstream issue, non-partisan issue. I agree that its the dems from the 60s and the 70s that started the whole thing, I’m indifferent to that but none-the-less I’m grateful.

More and more each day the keys and benefits both financially and politically of conservation, recycling, etc become more apparent and are embraced by previous non-believers.

Its part of the natural evolution of society.

I didn’t realize all Liberals were so environmentally friendly. What happened to Al Gore? Oh Yea, don’t forget about Nancy Pelosi, who refuses to fly in anything smaller than a Boeing 757 when she travels from California to Washington DC.
