Ecology Major/career question.?
I’ve been considering majoring in Ecology. I’ve also been looking at some of the careers available and they all look fascinating. But I have yet to see one that pays more than 30k per year. Now I don’t care about money too much but I would like to at least live comfortably if I have a graduate degree. Do all ecology jobs pay that poorly?
It really depends on WHO you work for. Environmental consultant firms are your best bet for a higher salary. Some non-profits pay well also. Government agencies usually pay less.
Fortunately we have a lot of people eager to work in this field. That tends to push wages down.
We also have a lot of the jobs being government funded. You know what that does. If there is any job that needs doing in the ecological field it is getting funding.
Pretty much yes I’m afraid. But you could always open your own consultation firm and make lots that way! The drawback is long hours and you will be doing basically just office work.
your on the right foot.
get a degree, help the world.
god bless

The consulting firm I work for, from time to time, is locally considered the best for wetland work. They use a Lexus as a field vehicle. I suspect that they do fairly well, especially since they mark up my consulting rate before billing it to the client.
