How can we conserve water from kitchen sink?

I would like to conserve water from my kitchen sink and need your help. There are times when I need to use hot water and run the tap until the water gets hot. I would like to buy/make a hose that I can attach to my sink so I can run the water to another container. Kitchen water taps are threaded so an aerator can be screwed on, is there a hose that can be similarly attached to save water?

My kitchen tap is about as far from the water heater as you can get so it takes a very long time to heat up. I’ve been thinking of getting a small tankless water heater to put under the sink, it would provide instant hot water but should I run it for any length of time, it would shut off when the hot water finally does arrive from the water heater. It would be electric as a gas line might be difficult to run but since it only runs when the tap is on and any sustained use will still be heated water from the central water heater, it shouldn’t be a significant increase in power use. The washer is also quite far away from the water heater, this hasn’t been bothering me as I don’t actually feel what temperature the washing water is but I’ll bet that if I put a tankless heater there, the clothes will be cleaner. With the laundry room, a gas tankless heater would be possible as the dryer runs on gas and the room has an exterior wall. The downside would be cutting a hole in the brick wall for the exhaust vent.

get one of those hoses for the shower that have a rubber end that slips over the tap and take the shower head off

Another nifty idea is to get either a water filtration pitcher (or if you live in an area with clean tap water you can use it straight from the sink) and put the water used before the water gets heated up for a tasty, cooling drink. You can have just plain water, or mix it with powered drink mixes like Koolaide or Crystal Light. Toss it in your fridge and save money on sodas by always having something else thats just as tasty to drink.

Hello your drain is connected to another "container" already. The waste water doesn’t vanish, its not consumed in any why. It simply goes into the finest recycle system conceivable.
If you must "Save" it why don’t you just use a milk jug or other similar device. Seems a true waste of energy to connect a hose for 5-10 seconds worth of water over and over and over and over.

Drink it.. for a few seconds you will be saving water and getting healthy. Ah, I c, thats comming from the Ol Hot water heater with all that nasty rust and scale. No, i wouldn’t drink it. But the pets can.

    don’t drink any, possibly die

We use empty gallon jugs to collect water at both the kitchen and bathroom hot water taps. We use it to water the plants and the pets. No hose needed.

BTW, that fresh water going down the drain is only recylced if you have a septic system, or if your municipality is one of the few that recycles water and/or injects water back into the aquifer. Otherwise, waste water ends up in the ocean where most of the earth’s water is.

Just install a kitchen sprayer, see source below for images, so you can direct the water to a container while waiting for the heated water to reach the sink. This would be a lot easier, and more aestheticaly pleasing, than attaching a hose to the facet.
