How much would a green roof cost for my building?

Author: I live in a big co-op in the South Bronx. I want to talk to the board about getting a green roof. The building is from 1920 or so, so I think it will cost a lot, but I’m wondering how much and if there are any programs out there to help us make this happen?

it costs like $500 depeneds on how big the size of the roof is
a lot more than $500. i’d say ten times that….$5000. of course, it all depends on your particular situation. could be more, could be less. you should track down a company that does green roofs. that may be tough as there aren’t many.
i know in chicago there were a limited number of grants being awarded for green roof projects.
Green roof costs vary depending on the size of the roof, the materials used and the type of green roof system chosen. Some green roofs employ multiple layers underneath the vegetation which serve to properly drain the rainwater to a basin or reroute it elsewhere. Other green roofs absorb a lot of the water. Green roofs can run $35-$100 per square foot and higher depending on labor and accessibility to the roof. The higher cost may be amortized over a longer period of time if the green roof is well maintained.
