Is the green movement on internet just another way to make money?
With so much global warming discussion on the news these days, I notice there are already many merchants begin to wave the "green" flags. The definition of "green" is such a loose term no one knows what it really means. As long as we encourage consumption in the society, we are not really helping the environment. What do you think?
Global warming is a $5BILLION business in the US alone.
Yes, the global warming fear is very profitable.
If saving the earth costs money then so be-it, I’d pay good money for my son to have a future. The biggest question is how are environmental monies being spent? Coldplay planted a whole load of trees in India to offset their new album.I’ve read most of these died due to bad irrigation. Just clicking a mouse and spending money for a project that isn’t regulated can’t be the way forward. The offset companies in my opinion plant in developing countries as land is cheap. It is an atmospheric issue, so plant anywhere is the catchphrase. Why not plant where it can be managed.
You’re right that commercial advertising of "green" products sometimes involves products which really aren’t that green.
But sometimes they are green. And developing the green idea itself is worth a lot.
So, on balance, it’s a good thing, not a bad thing.
