Conservation/Ecology Presentations?

These are presentation topics that I am going to be giving as a fundraiser for an Earthwatch expedition (http://www.earthwatch.org) in 2010. I have listed the age appropriate in parentheses. I would like to get a feel for what people would prefer to hear about the most. Please rank them in order of preference (1 being the first choice, etc.).

Natural History, Ecology, & Conservation of Large Mammals (Grades 4 to Adults/Seniors)
Bobcat Ecology (Grades 1-12, Adults/Seniors)
Black Bear Ecology (Grades 1-12, Adults/Seniors)

Human Ecology & Evolution?

Does Evolution fit in with Human Ecology?
I am writing a simple paper on Human Ecology for a gen ed intro to ecology class and the outline is as follows:

Human Ecology Defined: What is Human Ecology?

Establishment of Human Ecology: Include many of the “founders” of human ecology & it’s history.

Human Ecology & Evolution: Types of evolution (social, cultural, sociocultural? Theories etc.

Social Evolution:

Cultural Evolution: Predictive Theory- Structures & Forces

Criticisms of Evolution Theories:

Future of the Field of Human Ecology

Is discussing evolution too biological? I am not very experienced with Ecology, so I am not sure if evolution fits appropriately. I am a Psychology major so when asked to write a paper on an ecology topic I chose Human Ecology because I THOUGHT that would be the easiest for me, however, I am still having some insecurities about it. Please give me your insight! Do you think this goes well enough? Thanks! Oh & the paper only have to be 5-7 pages so I can cut out some areas if needed!

How do I pump water to a fountain without using electricity?

My school has a man made forest. This project has just been done late 2006. It was created by the Green Club where environment & saving nature resources is concern. But we have a fountain which reacts like a river. People ask me, is it environment friendliness just to keep the pump on all day to pump water out. I couldn’t answer them. So my question is, how do I pump water without using electricity?

What is "Hydrogen Economy"? How it will impact the environment and ecology? Is there co-op R&D efforts?

Hydrogen fuel when burned releases water in the atmosphere (the opposite of burning fossil fuels) and hence it is eco and environment friendly. However, the storage problems of hydrogen, comes in the way for countries to adopt to this fuel.

There should be international collaborative, cooperative and coordinated research and development efforts so that future global citizens are freed from greenhouse effects and global warming and all the other attendant ill effects of burning fossil fuels.

I would like the experts in the field of hydrogen economy to step up and accelerate the R&D efforts, especially in the storage and distribution of hydrogen for insuring the future global citizens from the greenhouse effects and global warming.

What's UPS's recycle policy?

I’ve asked my local UPS store several times if they recycle unwanted mail, paper and packaging. The answer is no.

Shouldn’t corporate UPS be helping their outlets with a Recyling Programme & Guidelines? That’s a lot paper we’re talking about…Open to ideas/links/thoughts about recyling junk mail, etc

Under what circumstances is Recycling worthwhile?

Start from here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7734998370503499886&q=penn+teller+duration%3Along+recycling

Wouldn’t it be great to have confidence in Recycling again?

So in a practical sense, under what circumstances is Recyling OF PAPER OR PLASTIC worthwhile?
***

By "worthwhile" I mean economically viable, environmentally favorable in the short/medium/long term, and/or beneficial to people/animals. Any statements declaring a positive should take into account its tradeoffs (eg. recycling of plastic saves petroleum, but is that worth the chemical byproducts and energy cost associated with recyling it?). Social arguments along the lines of "it increases awareness of environmental issues" are probably not sufficient since the URL above shows that we can all be aware without necessarily being informed or correct.

Answers focusing on the United States (or even urban California, where I live) are great!

Responses based mostly on opinion or conjecture are discouraged.

Can you make money recyling paper and plastic?

I live in Connecticut. I know you can make money with scrap metal and soda cans. What about papers? Other plastics besides soda bottles? I know I can recycle them but can I make some money by doing it? Say I bring in 500 pounds of paper will I get anything for it? What about 300 pounds of #1 & #2 plastic? Thanks in advance for any information.
