Q&A: Is it better or worse to breath in this air pollution from older cars these days?
Question: Is it better or worse to breath in this air pollution from older cars these days?
there are fewer and fewer new cars on the road. many with 200K miles, ect.
Does the air pollution worsen because of this
Answer:
Answer by geoweeg
After the advent of the catalytic converter (1980s) the changes in levels of pollution have been small enough that you would not be able to detect without some very sophisticated test equipment. The cars prior to this you would indeed be at great risk due to the lead content in the fuel.
How do non-hybrid cars affect air pollution?
Question: How do non-hybrid cars affect air pollution?
How do non-hybrid cars affect air pollution?
How do hybrid cars help stopping air pollution?
Answer:
Answer by Bibs
Every production of energy increases pollution. Automobiles burn gasoline or diesel fuel. Most of the combustibles are changed into carbon monoxide and the remainder are evaporated into the air in the form of a gas which may later condense into a liquid or solid. All these things are referred to as pollution. A hybrid causes less polution because they are more efficient. When you step on your brakes, an electric motor is converted into a generator which generates electricity for a battery which in turn may be used push the car with the electric motor at a later time.. The question remains, will the fuel savings be enough to justify the added cost of hybred equipment? .
Would it be possible to put aftermarket tail pipes on cars with filter to eliminate air pollution?
Question: Would it be possible to put aftermarket tail pipes on cars with filter to eliminate air pollution?
They put on aftermarket exhaust systems to make a car perform better, so wouldn’t it make a lot of sense to do the same thing with exhaust systems with filters that remove all pollutants? I think that would be the best way to eliminate air pollution without having to get rid of all the old cars on the road. What do you guys think? Would this work? how could we impliment it? It wouldn’t even have to interfere with the gas companies so it’s seems like a win win for everyone?

they already do, it’s called a catalytic converter. look it up.
Also, it still has to be somewhat freeflowing, too much back pressure is bad for the engine. So no, I don’t think this would work.
Is it true that some cars have air pollution?
Question: Is it true that some cars have air pollution?
Someone told me that Original cars have pollution and Hybrid cars don’t have that. How could Hybrid cars not give off air pollution?
Answer:
Answer by Bill M
Hybrid cars produce less pollution, but they do produce some when the gasoline engine is running.
What more do scientists need to do to lower emissions from cars and lower air pollution?
Question: What more do scientists need to do to lower emissions from cars and lower air pollution?
Heterogeneous Catalysis, Catalysitic converters and Noxer block are example I have already, but I need more ways that can limit air pollution and emissions from cars.
Answer:
Answer by Mike W
All of those are aftertreatments. The other approach is to reduce the emission coming out of the engine, which the manufacturers have been doing for years. Slowly but steadily the engines are getting cleaner.
A more radical approach is to change the engine, as in hybrids, or fuel cell vehicles.

Would you give up certain luxuries to save the environment?
Your dad is driving you crazy. It seems that he doesn’t care about the environment at all. He doesn’t recycle, he runs the air conditioner constantly, and he puts chemicals on the lawn. What’s worse, he laughs at you when you tell him these things harm the environment. Then one day he tells you he bought you a surprise. He says he bought you a early birthday present. It’s a gorgeous, but gas guzzling, sports car.
Do you accept it? You know that cars are a major source of pollution. And you know that it’s important to conserve energy. Hello! We’re talking about your very own car.
Whatever you decide, you can be sure you’re not the only one facing this problem. These days, everyone struggles with the fact that everyday products can damage the environment. But what’s the solution? Should people give up things they want to save the environment?
i need a real good reason
How do they figure that a light bulb puts out more pollution than a car?
In a comercial they say that if you change 4 light bulbs to the new CFL’s it like taking 400,000 cars off the road.
How much do dirt roads contribute to global warming or pollution?
I cant find emmision data from a Univ of Iowa dirt roads study but I remember someone said it was more 500-1000 times more massive than CO2 from cars that travel on them. Dirt roads are a threat to our planet we need to close them.
The EPA and Air Quality boards should focus on this if it is true.
What is the nano techology that uses mechincal energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen?
What is the nano techology that uses mechincal energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen? I was wondering about this since the nano is using its own energy and doesnt this make infinite hydrogen because the water is split without using the energy from the joining of hydrogen and oxygen. Couldnt they use this in cars producing a eco-friendly "infinite" engine without a need to replace hydrogen for a long long time if even needed?
