Does our increasing demand for bottled water also drive up the cost of oil?

Since plastic bottles are made from petroleum products, is our ‘thirst’ for bottled water also helping to drive up the price of oil? Or is this not a factor?

What do you do with your empty water bottle?

I know a lot of people prefer bottled water over tap water. My question is what effect do all those plastic bottles have on our environment?

Isn’t it counterproductive to claim bottled water is cleaner and better for you when the smog from the bottling company is harmful to us and the plastic from the empty bottles usually don’t get recycled?

I just can’t figure out why people prefer bottled water. It’s not even purified usually.

What about the states who do not participate in recycling???

I was wondering…since we are obviously polluting our selves off of our planet…slowly but surly…..and the government is supposedly so concerned about it…..WHY ARE THERE STILL STATES THAT DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN RECYCLING????

I looked for a list of the states who do not recycle and couldnt find one but I travel to Tenn often and know that Tenn doesnt do its share in recyling. Everyone throws away plastic bottles, glass bottles, and cans…everyone in Tenn just throws them into the freaking garbage. INTO THE GARBAGE!
So what gives? If the government is as concerned about the planet that we are slowly killing…why does the government not MANDATE every single state to recycle?
Another thing I thought about…you know how everyone is talking about plastic water bottles? Wouldnt it be a GREAT IDEA if the bottle return machines at grocery stores accepted the water bottles?! Even tho they wouldnt give money for returning them-it would be a great outlet to recycle them!

Recycling Do's and Don'ts?

I live down the street from a small recycling drop-off and I want to make sure I’m doing it right and I have a few questions. (It would really help if they added details at the site).

1) When I recycle plastic bottles, do I have to remove the cap? Also, do they all have to be clear bottles or can my Mountain Dew go in there too?

2) When recyling newspaper, do I have to remove the glossy 4-color ads or can those be recycled too?

3) Where can I put my soup cans? They only have a bin for soda cans and no one knows of a center that accepts soup cans.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No Recycling Deposit for Bottles in CT?

I want to start a recycling program at my school for plastic bottles and canned beverages.
But in Connecticut there arent any bottle deposits for recyling.
What can I do to start this if theres no recycling deposit in CT?
