How are environmentalists and green energy plans NOT like Communists and five-year plans?
I’m trying to argue that this author (who uses this analogy) is using fallacious reasoning. What are some obvious differences?
The author’s writes the following:
"Just as 20th-century socialists savaged capitalism for all the world’s ills and offered worthless “five-year plans” as a replacement, so today’s environmentalists savage industrial energy and offer us “green energy plans” that they assure us will work–once we give them the power to forbid everything else that has already been proven to work."
Any ideas on disproving this?
Is the University of East Anglia the authority on Global Warming?
I bet not a single person here every heard of the place nor is anyone familiar with their research. Course today we are all suppose to take heed of some OPINION someone from that University authored on the "Tipping Point" in the global weather patterns and ecology.
Is this the "science" that builds the foundation of the Global Warming Arguement?
Ken,
Its such a dominate force on the subject that when I entered the University name and Global warming into Google, my question came up #5 on the list. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lack of Public Interest in Nature/Ecology?
For a response paper for college, I had to go to the nearest bookstore (Borders) and find the Nature/Ecology section in the store. To my surprise, the section was only two shelves on the second floor and placed right next to the men’s and women’s bathroom. Ironic I thought. The section is also right next to the pets and grooming section.
So I question, is environmental writing about nature and ecology lacking interest from the public?
I felt that the books about nature and ecology were rather dark, talking about the "The End of Nature" and "The End" or "An Inconvenient Truth." I was just wondering what some personal feedbacks would be.
Is it possible that massive pollution could cause organ failure epidemics?
In the movie "REPO! the Genetic Opera", 50 years from now pollution has become so extreme that it is causing a pandemic of organ failures. Could something like this theoretically happen?
How can I save money and go green at the same time?
To help out in for the "green" cause and do my bit for the planet, I am thinking about going green. For some reason it seems like it is going to be expensive. Anyone have any ideas?
How do you contribute to save our green earth?
Do you recyle things oftenly?
My family would usely recycle our papers, bottles etc etc.

What is the best way to test tap and stream water for contaminants?
Looking for an "over the counter" way to test local streams and tap water for biological and chemical contaminants.
Is starting an internal combustion engine considered littering?
It got me thinking after seeing a sign that read "littering – 0.00 fine". Arn’t we all littering everytime we start up our cars, lawnmowers, etc…?
How would you rebut this argument concerning business and the environment?
"Hoffman argues that business has an obligation to protect the environment beyond what the law requires and that it must creatively find ways to become part of the solution to our environmental problems."
I am supposed to disagree and form a convincing argument as to why. I am very pro-environment, and this is a very hard topic for me to dissent on. =[
Are shopping totes really better for the environment than brown paper or plastic bags?
With all the craze of celebrities using shopping totes and retail clothing stores that supply them, are shopping totes better for the environment? I’ve looked at these "This is not a plastic bag" totes and I wonder "Aren’t these too made of non-environment friendly materials? If say, one of these shopping totes lasts me a year, how much damage does making this bag do to the environment, versus the damage a year’s worth of plastic bags from the grocery store do to the environment?
