Question: When looking at the current climate, how many years worth of data should be considered?
I’m doing a project on global warming and how it has affected temperatures across the U.K. I have found a significant rise especially in the last twenty years and even more so in the last five. I am wanting to make tables of what the current climate is like in different parts of the U.K. I want a set of data long enough to give a decent sample, but not so long that I end up including data which is no longer valid. I’ve found this difficult because temperatures are rising so quickly.

Really when looking at Climate change and AGW theory one needs to look at as much data as possible

However if you are having to use raw data for your project, I would suggest you try to do 100 maybe even 200 years. The UK has kept detailed records since 1814 or 1815 ( cant remember which) so you should be able to.

Also include the Graphs over the longer history of the entire world , provided by Ice core data , just to show the trends though.

Good luck

Question: What products should I use to change my baby’s diaper in a dry climate?
I live in Denver and I’m stocking up on diaper changing items before my baby arrives next month. The climate here is really dry, so would I still need to use baby powder or should I use more creams?

Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

Should we start taxing exercise as part of a comprehensive plan to combat climate change?

Question: Should we start taxing exercise as part of a comprehensive plan to combat climate change?
If anthropogenic carbon emissions are indeed the primary cause of climate change then shouldn’t exercise be taxed as well. Think about it, when people exercise they generally respire at an increased rate which means that that person is exhaling more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than normal.

No. A real comprehensive clean energy plan would stimulate the economy and fix our addiction to dirty fuels at same time.

Climate Change Agreements, should developing countries be excluded from the agreement?

Question: Climate Change Agreements, should developing countries be excluded from the agreement?
I’ve been reading recently about Climate Change Agreements, and I was really surprised with the fact that developing countries do not have full rights in Kyoto Protocol. Why do you think it is like that?
Should developing countries participate in Kyoto Protocol or should it be excluded?
Don’t you think that participation of developing countries in climate- change agreement will have a negative effect on their economy?

Kyoto excludes India & China & other so called developing countrys, they can put out as much pollution as they want. kyoto only puts the western countrys back in the stone age so the developing countrys can get ahead of us with no competition.

Should the United States raise the CAFE standard to conserve fuel and reduce air pollution?

Question: Should the United States raise the CAFE standard to conserve fuel and reduce air pollution?
Should the United States raise the CAFE standard to conserve fuel and reduce air pollution, even if the results could (and in most cases probably will) result in the loss of American job and in turn have a negative impact on our countries economy?

Answer:

Answer by ZomB_Hunter
I don’t think that the industry can support a raise in the CAFE standards right now. That is to say, the new year’s fleet (which would take effect next year) would increase the cost of vehicles more than Americans can afford, given the economy. That means that there would be a shift toward the use of older, non-compliant cars, which the change in CAFE has no effect on. The result would be no change in pollution (or more pollution, as the even older cars fill the places of newer cars), and there would be job loss as you say.
So it would actually be a loss for both sides. The economy would be worse, and pollution would not be better for it. Best to focus on the economy now so that we can afford ecolologically sound practices in the future. If you’re really worried about pollution, focus on sanctions against China.

EDIT: CAFE is set to change in 2011 to include more large vehicles. Also, raising CAFE standards are the most successful historically when the price of fuel falls after high prices. We’re a little late to take advantage of the last time that happened. Also, what America lacks in fuel economy, we make up for by strict emissions requirements. A typical high-mpg european car spits out more pollution per gallon than an American car. I will say that tightening CAFE standards would act as a buffer against high fuel prices in the long run. The effect is more economical than ecological.

What type of sleeping bag should I be looking at purchasing for the harsh Australian climate?

Question: What type of sleeping bag should I be looking at purchasing for the harsh Australian climate?
I am looking at doing some backpacking around Australia for about 6 – 9 months…

I don’t know anything about what type of sleeping bag to go for…I have done some research and theres always a 7c or 9c number associated with each sleeping bag model…

Is this code for what climate the sleeping bag is designed for? If so what type should I be looking for?

Answer:

Answer by Uncle Bonner
it all depends on where in Au you go and when. Northern Australia is very warm and tropical, then you head south and it can get cold unless it is summer there, it can still get cold, but not like crazy two sleeping bags and long-johns cold. I would not recommend a negative anything sleeping bag. 7c and 9c might be degrees Celsius. You can also buy sleeping bags over there. Australia is effing awesome, I spent four months there and barely scraped the surface of its awesomeness.

What are goals leaders should aim for during the COPENHAGEN Climate Conference 2009?

Question: What are goals leaders should aim for during the COPENHAGEN Climate Conference 2009?
The general public is finally starting to realize the importance of climate control. The world is beginning to take responsibility for the pollutant it creates. Im wondering what major issues people want to be addressed and their definition of success for this global climate conference.

Answer:

Answer by Ottawa Mike
My definition of success for this conference is if they put off doing something really harmful for no good reason until the issue is better understood.

Generally, people who want “action now” fall into the used car salesman crowd with their high pressure sales tactics. They don’t want to lose their “mark” by letting him think about it too long lest they lose his attention (or control).
