What kind of jobs are there to help prevent pollution?

I’m looking for a job where i could find out ways to make biodegradable trash or something else that directly affects pollution. I’d like to make a difference but preferably directly stopping pollution. Any suggestions?

I would also recommend environmental engineering (I am one!) if you’re interested in helping to keep the environment clean. These jobs range anywhere from keeping industries in line with pollution regulations, to water and wastewater treatment, to remediation of polluted soil and groundwater. Many of these jobs are in consulting, where you work with many different clients on a wide variety of problems. Jobs also exist in industry, i.e. working for a company to maintain regulatory compliance. If you want to design an eco-friendly container or something like that, you might also want to consider chemical or materials engineering. It’s my opinion that working in a field like chemical engineering would more likely allow you the opportunity to research new ways to make products and reduce waste, whereas with environmental engineering you are just helping polluters do the bare minimum to get by under current laws.

If you’re interested in designing systems that prevent or treat air pollution, environmental engineering is probably the best choice for you.
