What steps can we take to decrease our water consumption?

In Australia and all over the world, water is becoming scarce. Droughts have led to water restrictions in the cities as well as in agriculture and manufacturing. So, I want to know what you think are the best and most innovative ways to decrease water consumption?
I am the real Jay-Z and you can check out what I have been getting up to on water conservation in the Yahoo!7 Answers Team blog – http://au.blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-txn._0…

Get rid of all alcohol, the production of which squanders masses of water.
I say squander because in the end it all gets pissed away.
Then more water is needed to flush it.
    A vicious circle.

puppies deplete way too much of our scarce water resources. i propose a systematic elimination of puppies.

The best way to overcome droughts is rain water harvesting. Rain water can be harvested by making pits in homes n therefore increasing the ground water level. Decreasing water consumption can be made effective by creating awareness

One of the things that the industry can do is use water chillers instead of cooling towers. These chillers have a closed circuit and they do not loose any water by evaporation. The newest chillers from the biggest suppliers even offer energy savings of 18% when compared with older generation stuff.

With regard to agriculture, in some countries they still use retarded open canal irrigation

install water saving aerator on your kitchen faucet, washroom and shower faucet, saves as much as 50 % water usage.
water fields, lawns, plants early in the morning to delay water evaporation.

I guess from your concern on this very important topic shows there are indeed more important things in life than money, fame, jewelry, cars and women.
I’m glad to see you so motivated on this issue, i think one of the best ways is to raise public awareness and show people how very simple acts like not letting water drip from sink while unused, less uneccesary long showers and so on.

(congrats on your comeback and please do something about mr. West and he’s award show stunts, pride preceeds failure remember that)

Fix a leaky faucet, turn the tap off while brushing your teeth, place rain collection barrels at the end of downspouts to use for watering plants. I find grey water systems to be very interesting, the water from your sinks, shower, etc. is filtered and reused to flush toilets or water plants.

People must have knowledges about the precious of water and the danger of wasting water.
    Dont waste water any more.

In my opinion people will be conscious of the water consumption increase only when they will be proved what lack of water could do to each and every one of them. It’s human kind and you can’t stop it. I believe it can be prevented by limiting consumption, limiting the sources… not by drastic limits but to an average quantity. Extra should involve … as always… much higher costs. I am talking here about human controllable human consumption.
