Where can I find a computer recycling center in my area?

I’ve heard computers can be recycled; I have taken out all the parts which could be reused or sold. What can I do with the rest? I’ve heard of recyling centers specifically for computer (motherboards and such) but can not find any. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Any info about recycling anything on the local level in the US can be found at http://www.earth911.org. You enter your zip and it will help you find the facilities you are looking for.

Best Buy recycles computers and computer parts for free.

There’s a fee to cover shipping, but GreenDisk.com will recycle computers, parts, and peripherals.

Your local city or county may offer an electronics recycling every so often. You may want to check with your local sanitation or recycling department.

You can try your local Freecycle group, which is a listserv with groups by location (city/region/county usually). Everything offered or asked for is free. Some members take/ask for computer parts to put together whole systems to give back out for free.
